Seeing Things In a New Light Can Spark Transformation

“I was having problems in a relationship, but things turned for the better when I saw her in a new light. Now I’m filled with hope.” Seeing things in a new light can create new possibilities.

Stephen Covey said, “The way we see the problem is the problem.” This resonates with me. You?

If you can just get the light of God on that issue … you’ll see it in an EXTRAORDINARY LIGHT. Then you can call out the gold and trigger transformation!

Seeing Things In a New Light Is Transformational

In a real sense, seeing is interpreting.

Think about it in the natural sense of sight. Light reflects off an object, a person, or a view and enters your retina. The visual information is transmitted to your brain which then interprets what is seen.

What this means is that seeing actually happens in the mind. Your eyes and optical nerves are simply the gateway.

Light reflects. Then we interpret what we see.

Can we take it a step further though?

Seeing things in a new light will give us the opportunity to understand and interpret in a new, fresh way—I’m thinking about the mental/emotional/spiritual way that we see.

  • Seeing a relationship in a new light. A diamond in the rough.
  • Seeing a challenge or opportunity in fresh light. What’s possible?
  • Seeing a project in a new light. It will achieve better results.
  • What about seeing yourself in a new light? Higher Design is powerful.

What Could Happen If We See Things in a New Light — an Extraordinary Light?

You need more than natural light to live a truly, successful life—you need extra-natural light.

Extraordinary light.

God’s very nature is light … “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5 NKJ).

Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.

If the Ultimate Designer is light, how can we access it? Remember, he holds the Higher Design for everything about our lives.

How can we see things (everything) in this new, extraordinary light?

Jesus said, I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life” (John 1:2 NLT).

See that? The light of Jesus leads us to life. The God-kind-of-life. It’s another level of awareness and conviction.

Walking in the light is a walk of possibilities.

The New Testament says that Jesus Christ is the “radiance of His (the Father’s) glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3 NASB).

I love the Amplified translation of this verse: “He Christ) is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine].”

So this extraordinary light—God as light—comes to us via Jesus!

“Let There Be Light!”

I hope some of these ideas can be a pointer to perhaps advance possibilities in our personal world. And thru us, into the world-at-large.

The earth at the outset of creation was formless and void. It’s a Hebrew expression which means chaotic, sterile, uninhabitable, a wasteland.

Consider this with me …

When God said, “Let there be light!” on DAY 1 of creation, could it have been the shekinah of God, the manifest glory of God?

We know from the Genesis account that the sun and the lights of the heavens were not created until DAY 4.

Was it the light and glory of God (as Jesus, the Son of God) who shone over a darkened, chaotic earth? And then the creation process began.

God then releases his creativity and design through the process of creation. But first he turns the light on. The glory of his presence through his Son.

All things came into being by Him (Christ) … In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend (or overpower) it (John 1:3-5 NAS).

Kingdom Key: This Is How God Creates and Restores in Our Lives

Does something in your world seem chaotic, a wasteland?

Jesus can release brilliant light over that situation. Just as he did at creation. Then the Father’s re-designing Word is released to create and renew!

Think of it as a Kingdom template. This is how God works in us. And through us.

What are those one or two top areas in which you want to see the creativity of God active ? We all have them …

Here’s the opportunity:

Articulate those areas before the Creator in prayer. Invite the light of God. Call down heaven into those spaces to see them transformed into something new.

Something beyond even what we’re hoping for.

Kingdom Skill: See With the “Eyes of Your Heart”

One of the main things Jesus does in our lives is to wean us away from merely seeing with our natural sight … and to see with the eyes of our heart.

The apostle Paul prayed that the Father would give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, and that the eyes of our heart would be enlightened (Ephesians 1:17-18).

The Amplified translates it as “… by having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which he has called you.”

This is the capacity to see from our inner being and not just through our natural eyes.

Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others. —Jonathan Swift

A child may be struggling with ineptitude and a bad attitude. But a good parent does not merely see with their natural eyes. They see beyond. And deeper.

The dad or mom sees who the child really is and what their destiny will be. They become a strong ally to empower the child to develop and reach their potential.

It’s vital. Jesus said, “The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear (healthy), your whole body will be full of light” (Matthew 6:22).

Jesus was referring to our capacity to see clearly. This is Kingdom living.

How Do I Live This Out?

I was just chatting with Penny, my wife, about the challenge to transition from Kingdom concepts to real-world living.

It seems to me that Kingdom conceptual thinking comes to us as we open up to it. We start to understand the concepts first.

This is part of the process of renewing our mind. It’s a new and living way of thinking and approaching life. See Romans 12:1-2 and Ephesians 4:23.

But then we must understand the Kingdom concept as a CTA—a call to action. The action moves us to a new space of blessing and destiny.

So how can we practically take steps to flesh out this concept of seeing things in a new light … extraordinary Kingdom light?

A few thoughts:

  • Know that God is supernatural light. And it’s Jesus who brings this light to us. Fix your eyes on him (Hebrews 12:2). Increase your intimacy with Christ.
  • Receive Christ more and more into your life. He is the light!
  • Release the light of Christ over earth-borne situations and challenges … and even opportunities. Apply your faith through prayer and decree!
  • Walk in the light. As you remain in the light, more light will become available. Don’t live in the shade. (See the scriptures below.)
  • Intentionally wean yourself away from natural seeing and thinking. Transition to spiritual seeing and thinking.
  • Discipline yourself to consistently maintain a high Word-level. Understand that the Word of God is light.

Seeing Things in a New Light—Scriptures for Meditation and Proclamation

See things in a new light can spark transformation!

Inspired scripture transforms things. Meditate on these verses. Begin to speak them aloud in prayer and proclamation.

The most powerful weapon in the universe is the sword of the Spirit, the word of God in your mouth (Ephesians 6:17, see Ephesians 6:10-18).

You can use the print button below to print the post including these verses. (All scriptures are from the NAS translation.)

And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light … And there was evening and there was morning, one day (Genesis 1:2-3).

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).

God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all (1 John 5:5). “I am the light of the world” (Jesus in John 8:12).

For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light (Psalm 36:9).

You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways (Job 22:28, see Job 22:23-30).

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened … (Ephesians 1:17-18).
