Prayer Is Limitless!

Prayer is such a massive potential. And our development in prayer is limitless. As we discover more of our standing before the Throne of All, all bets are off!

A little Q & A … What’s the #1 reason a prayer is not answered? We can be sure of this, an un-prayed prayer is an un-answered prayer!

James wrote, “You do not have because you do not ask” (James 4:2).

Jesus says to us, “Ask (literally, keep asking), and you shall receive.” Dallas Willard says a child innately understands the power of request. They practice it at the highest level!

Persistence is the magic bullet. The only way you can fail is if you stop praying. 100 percent of the prayers I don’t pray won’t get answered. —Mark Batterson

What is the confidence of our prayers based on? Confidence is a key element of overcoming faith. This is where the potential of prayer is discovered.

What’s our standing before Father God as we come to Him in childlike faith?

I’m sure there’s more, but these 3 truths will help us start building a solid faith-confidence.

1. We Appeal to the Father on the Merits of Christ’s Righteousness

We do not come to the Throne of All on our own merits.

As a believing Christ-follower, we have right-standing with God the Father because we are the righteousness of God in Christ … “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Of course we “work out” the righteousness of God in our lives in a practical way. For the Christ-follower, this is sanctification in our daily experience. We progressively conform to the image of Christ. See Romans 8:29.

But the essence of our standing before the Father in prayer is the righteousness of God in Christ which is accredited to our account by faith. It’s free.

This totally disarms the Accuser! It’s a 100% fail-proof foundation for our prayer life.

2. Jesus Said We Would Pray to the Father in His Own Personal Name

Praying “in Jesus name” is not something we casually say at the end of a prayer because we’re ready to stop praying.

It’s actually the exercise of power of attorney before the Father. It’s legal. Jesus has given us His name.

O the power of private prayer! I hath a kind of omnipotency in it. —Thomas Brooks, Puritan

As we have the mind of Christ, praying in His name, it’s as if Jesus is conversing with the Father. This understanding is a weapon that the adversary of prayer does not want us to realize!

Prayer is limitless. Use your legal authority!

3. Jesus Christ’s Firstborn Rights Over All Creation

This understanding has come to me in my own time with the Lord …

The firstborn had special rights and privileges. As the only begotten (unique) Son of God, Jesus has firstborn rights over creation.

And the New Testament says we are joint-heirs with Christ.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:15-17).

Remember, we approach the Father in prayer with the rights and privileges of Christ!

Prayer Is Limitless — Preface Your Request With Something Like This

“Father, hallowed be your name. I worship you and recognize you for all that you are. May your kingdom and your will be progressively realized in our world. I now come before You on the basis of the perfect obedience and righteousness of your only Son, Jesus Christ. I progress in the mind of Christ. I make request before You in Jesus Christ’s name, praying before you in His stead. I employ the authority of the name of Christ. And I appeal to You on the basis of Jesus Christ’s firstborn rights over all things. It all came through Him. And it’s all for Him. Amen.”

This will get us started, building our confidence in prayer as we rehearse our standing.

Q4U: Prayer is limitless. Can you see the potential? What do you desire to bring before the Creator with the potential of request?

    1. Hi Lenetra. My encouragement is to keep asking, seeking, and knocking as Jesus said – Matthew 7:7-11. And ask the Lord if there is anything he wants you to change in your daily life. We all need to be open to this, including me. I believe you can come into a new season if you yeild to the Holy Spirit and do not give up. Prayer transforms us.
