If the reunion of heaven and earth is going to happen, it means big things for us now. Unimaginable things. [see video below]. Why? Because we can live in the light and power of it now.
What’s God up to? Is there a Grand Narrative in the Bible?
It’s been said it’s embarrassing when we realize what Jesus talked about and modeled in the Gospels. Many believers have missed his core message and work.
It’s the Gospel (Good News) of the Kingdom! And what Jesus is after is the complete reunion of heaven and earth.
Just what is Jesus after?
Heaven and earth were once united in the Garden of Eden. It was all to be spread throughout the earth—“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule …”
But our insistence on deciding what was good and evil separated us from the Creator. And heaven was separated from earth.
Jesus said, “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost” (Matthew 18:11).
What’s lost? We’ve lost our CONNECTION with the Creator … and thus our CAPACITY to exercise dominion. To rule and reign on the King’s behalf.
Jesus seeks and saves. It’s all being restored by Christ the King. And it’s underway now!
The core message of Jesus
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” is what Jesus said.
- His main message is not a moral one
- It’s not a religious quest
- It’s not social justice
- It’s not about the Church
- It’s not even how to get into heaven
His life message and work is about the Kingdom of God … and this includes the reunion of heaven and earth.
This is a fascinating animation. Just under 7 mins.
A mind-bender: the overlapping of heaven and earth
So here’s the prayer priority Jesus gave us (Matthew 6 and Luke 11): “Hallowed by Your name. May your Kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
The will of the Father, the Kingdom of God, will be completely realized at the Coming of Christ. But it’s already here now. Penetrating and expanding like leaven (Matthew 13:33). It develops from a tiny seed into a tree of refuge for many (Matthew 13:31-32).
The Scriptures speak of This Age and The Age to Come. The Age to Come has already overlapped in This Age. Hebrews 6:4-5 says we can taste the heavenly gift, partake of the Holy Spirit, taste the good word of God and the powers of the Age to Come! This is mind-bending!
Our insufficiently-renewed minds need to be bent!
Few believers may experience this. But we’re all called to! It’s available. It’s the normal Christian life—part of the abundant life which Jesus promised (“I have come to give abundant life,” John 10:10).
What the reunion of heaven and earth can mean for you now …
Christ’s Kingdom carves out spaces now through yielded Christ-followers. Heaven’s influence is released into the earth.
- The Father’s healing intent can flow through you.
- The free Spirit of Christ the Lord can manifest. Freedom.
- Abundance from a higher plane can be released in and through you.
- Higher design can be established via your life and work.
Internalize this potential: In light of the complete reunion of heaven and earth to come, we can experience an overlapping of heaven and earth now!
I know it likely sounds too good to be true. And it may challenge the theological systems of thought we’ve experienced. It certainly challenges naturalism and secularism.
But allow the Word and Spirit of God to recondition your inner state. You see, our experience must come up to the level of the Word and Spirit. We don’t pull the Word and Spirit down to our current level of development in Christ. Or our partial understanding.
